Ligentia and Sirma: From Fragmented Reporting to Enterprise‑Wide Intelligence

Client Overview

Ligentia, a global supply chain and logistics provider, was operating with fragmented reporting systems, inconsistent KPIs, and heavy reliance on manual processes, leaving leadership without a unified view across departments and regions. As the company grew through its merger with VGL and rising demand for real‑time customer visibility, the gap between the data it had and the data it needed became a competitive liability, prompting Ligentia to partner with Sirma to evolve Polaris into a centralized enterprise intelligence platform that consolidates data from CargoWise One, finance, CRM, HR, IT, and other systems into a single, governed source of truth with standardized KPIs and trusted insights for the Board, Management, and Operations.

Business Challenge

Ligentia operated with disparate reporting systems, inconsistent KPIs, and heavy reliance on manual and semi‑automated processes, with no unified view across departments or newly acquired entities like VGL. This made it difficult to enforce common definitions and governance, slowed strategic decisions, and created operational risk as the organization tried to integrate new data sources and scale its reporting infrastructure.

Project Goal

The project set out to build a comprehensive business intelligence solution consolidating data from all Ligentia regions and departments, including acquisitions, into a centralized Data Warehouse. The scope covered automated ETL processes (80+ daily runs) for cleansing, reconciliation, and business logic, unified dimensional data models and KPIs, and Power BI reports and dashboards tailored to Freight Operations, Finance, Customer Success, HR, IT, and other functions to support consistent, governed decision‑making.

Ligentia chose Sirma for a project described internally as one of the most challenging initiatives the company had undertaken, requiring a unified Data Warehouse to replace fragmented reporting. Sirma brought expert technical leadership, strong project management, and the ability to collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to embed governance, data quality, and standardization at the core of the new platform.

Solution Delivery

The key component of the partnership is Polaris, a unified and automated Business Intelligence (BI) platform. Polaris consolidates data from various sources, including CargoWise One, finance, CRM, HR, and IT, into a single source of truth. It is built on a centralized Data Warehouse and features over 80 daily ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes that transform raw data into dimensional models using standardized business rules.

As the partnership developed, Sirma enhanced Polaris by integrating specialized datasets and solutions that offer comprehensive visibility throughout the supply chain lifecycle. Power BI plays a key role in this transition by providing governed, role-based dashboards and reports, replacing the outdated spreadsheets and ad-hoc data extracts that were previously used within the organization. This shift enables standardized key performance indicators (KPIs) across all departments, leading to a notable improvement in the overall efficiency and insights of the business.

The Polaris project was one of the most challenging initiatives Ligentia has tackled, requiring a unified Data Warehouse to replace our fragmented reporting process. Sirma proved to be an invaluable partner, providing expert technical leadership, strong project management, and seamless collaboration, which enabled us to achieve significant business benefits.

Business Results

Internal Efficiency and Data Governance Polaris enabled Ligentia to move from fragmented, manual reporting to a single, governed intelligence layer that serves as the organization’s source of truth. Over 80 automated ETL processes dramatically reduced manual effort and reconciliation work, standardized KPIs across regions (including VGL), improved data quality, and gave leadership a reliable foundation for faster, confident decision‑making.

  • Standardized KPIs and governance. Common definitions and centralized logic ensure that all regions and departments measure performance the same way.
  • Reduced manual effort. Automated data loads, cleansing, and reconciliation replace manual reporting, freeing teams to focus on analysis rather than data preparation.
  • Trusted decision‑making. A single, validated view of the business reduces discrepancies between reports and strengthens internal control over key metrics.
  • Scalability for growth. The governed data platform makes it easier to onboard new data sources and acquisitions without recreating reporting from scratch.

Technology Stack

Polaris uses a modern, cloud‑based analytics stack centered on Azure Synapse Analytics with Dedicated SQL Pool, MS SQL Server, and Power BI for visualization and standardized reporting. Additional technologies, such as Snowflake, dbt, ThoughtSpot, and CargoWise One integrations, support scalable warehousing, transformation, governed self‑service analytics, and supply‑chain‑specific data ingestion, all aligned with Ligentia’s governance model.

Sirma × Ligentia Relationship

Over more than five years of collaboration, Sirma has become Ligentia’s primary data and engineering partner, continuously extending Polaris with new datasets, governance rules, and capabilities.
